NATAKAA THEATRE OF FLAVOUR

“Nataka means drama — and dinner here plays in three acts, across five levels of terracotta, stone and lamplight.”

A 240-seat dining house set inside a reimagined Jubilee Hills bungalow — continental grills, slow South Indian classics and Asian wok notes, closed by a Tres Leches the city talks about.

Prologue · Our Story

An old bungalow,
rewritten as a stage.

Nataka began when a 35-year-old Jubilee Hills residence was reimagined — not demolished — into a dining house. The slope was kept, the mango, neem and coconut trees were kept, and the house learned a new language of arches.

The brief was never to build another restaurant. It was to let the land keep its memory — red oxide underfoot, tandur stone in the open air, a colonnade of arches carrying the grammar of old Hyderabadi deodis into the present. Seating unfolds along the natural gradient, so every table has its own vantage point and its own privacy.

By afternoon, light filters through the canopy onto glass and stone. By evening the trees turn to silhouettes, the boulders dissolve into the dark, and the cascading waterbody catches the last of the light. The kitchen answers with the same philosophy — continental technique, South Indian memory, Asian fire — plated without gimmick.

The name

नाटक

nāṭaka — drama, a performance, a play

Every evening is a production: the grill for percussion, the handi for strings, dessert for the finale. You are not a customer here. You are the audience — and occasionally, the protagonist.

The Stages · The Venue

Five levels.
One continuous scene.

The house climbs a 45-degree slope exactly as the old bungalow did — no rock blasted, no ground levelled. Walk up through all five.

01

The Colonnade

Red-sandstone walls and a cusped entrance — the street gives way to the hush of the house.

02

The Landing

A pause between worlds, wrapped in mango, neem and coconut green that was never cut down.

03

The Mezzanine

The community tier — long tables, loud laughter, plates built for sharing.

04

The Main Dining

The central verandah. Terracotta arches, tandur stone underfoot, the full cast of the kitchen.

05

The Elevated Dining

Above it all — a cascading waterbody for a soundtrack and the city glittering beyond the trees.

Evenings carry live conversation, soft programming and the water court’s murmur — the house is tuned for long tables. For large gatherings and celebrations, the mezzanine and elevated tiers host private stagings.

Published press and public ratings — not commissioned praise.

Respect for its terrain — transforming a 35-year-old residence while ensuring the trees on the property were untouched.
